Council Pledges Work on "G" Train

by Kathleen Horan

NEW YORK, NY April 09, 2008 — G train passengers say it's regularly overcrowded and unreliable.

The City Council held a hearing yesterday afternoon - part of an effort to improve service on the Brooklyn-Queens Crosstown line.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said while the agency wants to extend service to Church Avenue by the end of the year, the plan to run more trains is being held up by budget woes.

Brooklyn Councilwoman Leticia James says that's unacceptable.

JAMES: You know, when I was in grade school, I used to get "G's." G's stood for good. In this case, "G's" stand for god awful, gridlock and a system that unfortunately, is being treated like a ghetto.

REPORTER: James - who has no power over the MTA - introduced a resolution calling on the authority to increase G train service and not to implement any service cuts in the next fiscal year.
