Catholic Teachers Suspend Strike

by WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY April 08, 2008 —A Catholic teachers union has called off a strike at eight New York City schools.

The Federation of Catholic Teachers says the move comes after a "good faith" negotiation session. The union says more meetings with the Archdiocese of New York are scheduled today.

Another Catholic teachers union - the Lay Faculty Association - has threatened to strike during Pope Benedict's visit to the city later this month.

The archdiocese and the unions are at odds over wages, health care and pensions.
