Ex-Mayor's Trial Winds Down
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY April 07, 2008 —Closing arguments are set for today in the trial of former Newark Mayor Sharpe James and a one-time mistress.
James is accused of arranging the sale of nine city-owned properties at a discounted rate to Tamika Riley, who quickly sold them for more than 10 times what she paid.
Jurors heard from 41 witnesses during five weeks of testimony. They could begin deliberations within a few days.
