NEW YORK, NY March 14, 2008 —Jonathan Stone works with Asian art at Christie's, where viewing has opened for a series of important sales. He says the collection several exceptional pieces.
STONE: There's a really spectacular 12th century Buddha - a Japanese Buddha - from the Kamakura period. A wooden piece, which if you look at the x-rays, still has sealed documents inside which have been there since the 12th century. I think that's one of the highlights.
REPORTER: The so-called "Supreme Buddha" has an estimated value of $1.5 to $2 million.
This and other pieces of classical and contemporary Asian art will be on view as part of Asian Art Week, which runs through March 21.
