Bloomberg Asks for Additional 3% Spending Cut
by Amy Eddings
NEW YORK, NY March 04, 2008 —In a sign of troubled economic times, Mayor Bloomberg has asked all city agencies to trim spending by another three percent for fiscal year 2009, which begins July first.
REPORTER: The mayor's request comes on top of an earlier request to trim those budgets by five percent.
BLOOMBERG: Hopefully it will not hurt them materially. They are instructed to cut it a little bit from every program.
REPORTER: Bloomberg blames the cuts on a downtown in tax revenues, and on Governor Spitzer's executive budget, which he says reduces city aid by 700 million dollars.
But, Laura Anglin, the State Budget director, says the city is getting more money from the state than it received last year.
