Detective "Uncomfortable" Night of Bell Shooting
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY March 04, 2008 —A detective testifying yesterday in the trial of the 3 detectives charged in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell said he felt uneasy from the start of the undercover operation at the Kalua Cabaret, where the shooting took place.
Detective Hispolito "Hip" Sanchez said he "felt uncomfortable," suggesting police were unprepared for an unfamiliar and hostile setting inside the club.
But the detective also testified that outside the club that night, he heard one of Sean Bell's friends tell another, "yo get my gun."
Lawyers for Bell's family dispute that comment was ever made.
