NEW YORK, NY February 13, 2008 —Whether Roger Clemens ends up in the Hall of Fame or a jail cell could be decided today when he tells Congress, under oath, that he never used performance enhancing drugs. WNYC's Dan Blumberg has more.

The 7-time Cy Young Award winner was the highest profile player named in baseball's Mitchell report 2 months ago and since then, he's aggressively battled the accusations that he used steroids and Human Growth Hormone.

Clemens was outed by his former personal trainer Brian McNamee, who cut a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time for distributing banned drugs.

McNamee also said he supplied drugs to Clemens's Yankee teammates pitcher Andy Pettite and 2nd baseman Chuck Knoblauch. Both of them say McNamee was telling the truth about them.

But Clemens says his former trainer is wrong about him. He says McNamee never injected him with banned drugs - only vitamin B12 and the painkiller lidocaine.

Today, Clemens faces his accuser before the glare of Congress and the national media. One of them will be lying and federal agents will be sitting in the committee room paying close attention to what they say, ready to file perjury charges against either.
