Brainwaves at the Rubin Museum of Art
WNYC News
NEW YORK, NY February 11, 2008 —Last night at the Rubin Museum of Art, a musician, a filmmaker and a neuroscientist got together to talk about out-of-body experiences. It was part of the museums’ Brainwaves series, which explores how music, art and meditation affect the brain. Jazz composer and pianist Vijay Iyer took part in the discussion. He says we have to get away from the idea that the mind is separate from the body.
IYER: The way we think is informed by our experience in the world, our physical experience in the world, and so music is very much a part of that picture. We experience music with our bodies, music makes sense because of our bodies.
