Votes Still Being Cast From Abroad
by Bob Hennelly
NEW YORK, NY February 08, 2008 —Super Tuesday may be over, but around the world, thousands of Americans who live abroad are participating in a global Democratic primary. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.
They're called the Democrats Abroad and they will send a contingent of 22 delegates to next summer's Democratic Convention in Denver.
All this week, Americans living in more than 100 countries are balloting by Internet, fax and mail. In 30 countries, there is the opportunity to vote in person.
The Democrats Abroad have had a presence at every convention since 1976.
Over the years, the group has lobbied on behalf of enacting federal laws that made it easier for US citizens living overseas to vote in elections.
Democrats Abroad also facilitates Americans living overseas getting access to absentee ballots.
For WNYC, I'm Bob Hennelly.
