Final Flurry of Campaign Activity

by Fred Mogul

NEW YORK, NY February 04, 2008 —On the final weekend before Tuesday's parimaries, the hometown favorite was taking nothing for granted. Hillary Clinton's campaign took to the streets to drum up support and to counteract Barack Obama volunteers who fanned out across the city en masse.

WNYC's Fred Mogul has more.

Obama supporters could be found at supermarkets, subway stops and street corners around the city, doling out leaflets, buttons and stickers.

In Brooklyn, librarian Emily Ranseen walked by a trio of chanting Obama volunteers, but she was still undecided. She said she knows people in her native Chicago who were close to Obama but have become disillusioned.

RANSEEN: They think he's just kind of saying everything that he feels wants to be heard. Which is what a politician does anyway, so I don't know.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on Sunday, Congressman Charles Rangel, Senator Charles Schumer and a Kennedy or 2 not aligned with Obama made appearances on behalf of Clinton.

And, an old-school megaphone truck patrolled Washington Heights, beckoning Latino primary-goers to vote for "La Presidenta Clinton."

For WNYC, I'm Fred Mogul.
