Rudy Makes Final Push in Florida

Behind in the polls and with supporters openly hoping for a “miracle,” Rudy Giuliani made his final pitch to Florida Republicans yesterday.

by Andrea Bernstein

NEW YORK, NY January 29, 2008 —Accompanied by the actor John Voight, who vouched for his work as mayor, Giuliani flew around the state of Florida Monday, speaking to crowds that never topped 100 - until he got to Miami for a rally late last night.

Hundreds of boisterous college students filled a hall at Florida International University.

GIULIANI: We have the votes to win, they’re at home, they’re at home, you have to get them from home to the polls tomorrow. If you do that, we will win and we will surprise everyone.

The former mayor says he’s beat expectations before. He says he's always won by bucking conventional wisdom. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein in Miami.

OUTRO: We'll be providing live updates on the Florida primary beginning tonight at 7 pm.
