State Employee Tried to Sell Artifacts Online
A state employee who stole historic documents and sold them on e-Bay has been arrested.

NEW YORK, NY January 29, 2008 —REPORTER: Daniel Lorello is an archives specialist with New York's Department of Education.
He allegedly sold some documents for thousands of dollars. One item was an 1823 letter from former Vice President John Calhoun.
Joseph Romito, a historian, saw the letter up for bid on e-Bay and suspicious, did some background research.
ROMITO: Then I looked to see where did the editor get this letter? And it said New York State Library, Henry Post collection. And I thought, "Well, why would the state library relinquish this?"
REPORTER: Lorello also allegedly stole Civil War memorabilia and several well known prints. He's charged with criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny.
