MTA Scales Back Fulton Street Transit Hub
by Amy Eddings
NEW YORK, NY January 28, 2008 —Construction inflation is driving up costs of the new transit center at the Fulton Street subway stop by some $320 million, for a total price tag of more than $1 billion. The new station was envisioned as Lower Manhattan's answer to Grand Central Terminal, but today, MTA officials said they were heading back to the drawing table.
It looks like the transit hub will be more of a transit stub. WNYC's Matthew Schuerman tells All Things Considered host Amy Eddings what went wrong, and what it will mean for commuters.
