NEW YORK, NY January 27, 2008 —Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has been spending the day campaigning among Jewish and Italian ex-New Yorkers in Florida, ahead of that state's Tuesday primary. WNYC’s Andrea Bernstein is with the Giuliani campaign in Southeast Florida.
REPORTER: With former congresswoman Susan Molinari and Long Island congressman Peter King at his side everywhere he goes, Giuliani is still drawing adoring support –- but from relatively small crowds. His once slashing tongue in check, he’s praising his rivals.
GIULIANI: And I will say nothing bad about any of them, they are all very good men, but I believe I am your best choice. I have had the responsibility of millions of people on my shoulders for safety and security, and I delivered results that I hadn’t delivered before.
REPORTER: Earlier, the mayor seemed visibily deflated when discussing the endorsement of John McCain by Florida governor Charles Crist. Giuliani suggested to reporters that he had believed that endorsement wold go to him.
