Drivers Face Increased Scrutiny
New York City taxi drivers had better mind their manners - officers are going undercover to check up on cabbies' courtesy.
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY January 24, 2008 —The Taxi & Limousine Commission says its officers and police are posing as passengers to make sure drivers aren't violating rules against refusing credit cards, talking on cell phones while driving and general rudeness.
Violators may face fines and repeat offenses could lede to license suspensions.
The head of the Taxi Workers Alliance says the city is "persecuting drivers," while shrugging off their problems.
