Bloomberg Addresses National Issues in California and Texas
by Brian Zumhagen
NEW YORK, NY January 20, 2008 —Mayor Bloomberg insists he's not considering an independent bid for the White House. But he's been addressing national issues during visits to delegate-rich states.
REPORTER: Speaking in California Saturday, the mayor assumed the role of the outsider delivering a rebuke to Washington. He said politicians in Congress care more about protecting party majorities than they do about keeping up with the nation's real infrastructure needs.
BLOOMBERG: Washington, as you know, spends money to win votes and collect campaign cash, no matter what the real needs are. And that's why they fund roads to nowhere and bridges to nowhere and highways that states don't even want.
REPORTER: The mayor announced a new coalition to address the infrastructure issue, along with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, a Democrat. During a visit to Texas on Friday, Bloomberg met with Clay Mulford, the ballot access expert who managed Ross Perot's independent presidential campaigns.
