Apollo Theatre Looks for Help in Restoration Fund

NEW YORK, NY January 16, 2008 —The Apollo Theater is looking to reach even deeper pockets. The legendary theatre announced the public phase of a major capital campaign aimed at courting new donors, to help raise ninety-six-million dollars.
REPORTER: The legendary Harlem establishment has been engaged in an extensive restoration project since 2001. Now, it's seeking to create 4 thousand square feet of additional space for community and education programs in its interior, and it plans to update its performance stage with state-of-the-art equipment for performers.
Richard Parsons is Chairman of the Board of Time Warner and also heads up the Apollo Theater Foundation. He says the Apollo's international fame should help drive the fundraising efforts forward
PARSONS: And the Apollo has been the venue. In which so much of American culture has been created and demonstrated to the world and preformed.
REPORTER: The Apollo Theater has already raised fifty one point five million dollars.
