No Show for Winter Storm
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY January 14, 2008 —REPORTER: The big snow storm never materialized for the city.
Over the weekend, the National Weather Service said that the city could get 5-8 inches of snow. But this morning, there's just rain in the city.
John Christantello, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says yesterday's mid-40 temperatures were expected to drop low enough for snow.
CHRISTANTELLO: When the precipitation started to come down a little bit more heavily, it did knock the temperatures down into the middle 30s, but had a tough time changing over to snow. The heavier precipitation actually beat out the colder temperatures.
REPORTER: Points north of the city got 2-4 inches of wet snow that was easily handled by plows and sanders on the main roads.
Still, some school districts in the northern suburbs decided to postpone their openings by 2 hours this morning.
