Obama Greeted by Large Crowds in NJ
Barack Obama was in Jersey City yesterday for the first public event following his surprise second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary.

NEW YORK, NY January 10, 2008 —Supporters waited outside for hours, but at least it was unseasonably warm. WNYC’s Fred Mogul was there.
The lines wrapped around much of the campus of St. Peter’s College and when the fire marshal declared the gymnasium full, more than a thousand people were left outside.
Obama highlighted his strong showing in Iowa, and downplayed the results in New Hampshire.
OBAMA: Even when we didn’t quite win, we were ready to keep on going - onto Nevada, onto South Carolina, back to New Jersey and win this nomination.
The Illinois senator referred indirectly to Hillary Clinton, suggesting he was the most likely candidate to change American politics because his experience comes from community organizing and teaching civil rights, rather than working in Washington.
Many audience members said they spent 4 hours or more waiting to see him. For WNYC, I’m Fred Mogul.
