Preparations Underway for Christmas Feasts
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY December 24, 2007 —While some New Yorkers have left town for vacation and others are preparing for a not-so-white Christmas in the city, some residents are putting the finishing touches on meals for the needy, to be served on Christmas Day.
REPORTER: 2,500 people are expected at one Christmas dinner in Brooklyn tomorrow. Lee Perlman is the organizer of the event, which will take place at the YMCA in Prospect Park. He says local hotels and businesses make tomorrow's meal possible.
PERLMAN: We have almost two dozen hotels who actually prepare turkeys for us. So the meal that we will be serving on Christmas Day is no different that anyone would be able to get if they were a guest in the finest hotel in New York City.
REPORTER: Perlman says gifts and packages of additional food will be distributed to guests after tomorrow's meal.
