CA Congressman Praises NYC School Reforms

NEW YORK, NY December 04, 2007 —New York City's public schools may play a role in revising the federal program No Child Left Behind Act.
REPORER: California Congressman George Miller is a co-author of the original educational standards program. During a visit to a Brooklyn school, he said the city's school-wide bonus program and system of progress reports could serve as models for some aspects of the new version of the Act.
MILLER: "These two programs are really the key to fundamental change and reform and empowerment of people within schools of people within schools to make the kind of changes that we absolutely know are necessary."]
REPORTER: Congressman Miller toured PS 133 in Brooklyn with Mayor Bloomberg, Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein. The congressman was in New York to meet with the mayor and city education officials for a briefing on New York's public school reforms.
