Coney Island Bathers (Brooklyn Museum)
Coney Island Photo Exhibit Opens at Brooklyn Museum
by Allison Lichter
NEW YORK, NY November 28, 2007 —Earlier this month, the city unveiled a proposal for restoring old-time glory and glitz back to Coney Island. The city's zoning plan comes in the wake of another proposal by a shopping-center developer, who has purchased key land in Coney Island's amusement district-- prompting some to wonder if the historic site will be transformed in favor of high-priced, beach-front housing.
With the future still uncertain, the Brooklyn Museum weighs in with a small and spirited photo exhibition that follows the area's evolution since the 1870s. It’s titled "Goodbye Coney Island?" and runs November 28th through April 6th.
