Rand Commission Releases Findings on NYPD Stop and Frisk

NEW YORK, NY November 21, 2007 —When it came out that close to 90% of the people stopped and frisked by New York City police in 2006 were either Black or Hispanic there was an uproar.

Elected officials and civil rights groups alleged racial profiling noting that less than 10% of those encounters produced an actual arrest. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly denied the charges, but he commissioned an independent review by the Rand Corporation. Now the report is in. With us to talk about its findings is WNYC's Bob Hennelly.
