New Jersey Votes on Three Ballot Questions

by Bob Hennelly

NEW YORK, NY November 05, 2007 —In addition to picking New Jersey's entire state legislature tomorrow, voters will be asked to weigh in on three ballot questions that deal with state spending. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

Question number one calls for Constitutionally dedicating 1 percent of the state's seven percent sales tax for permanant property tax relief. Ballot question two is a 45O million dollar bond act to fund stem cell research. The third public question is on a 2OO million Green acres bond issue for open space.

Opponents of all three have taken to the airwaves and have deployed lawn signs statewide urging a no vote on all three. They site a projected three billion dollar budget shortfall for next year as well as billions of dollars in exisiting outstanding state debt. Pro-life groups are also opposing the stem cell provision.

Also at stake tomorrow who gets to hold county elective offices like Sheriff, County clerk and freeholder. Polls are open from 6 am to 8 pm. For WNYC I am Bob Hennelly.
