Legionnaires Kills 3 in Nursing Homes
WNYC News
NEW YORK, NY September 27, 2007 —Health officials say Legionnaires' disease has killed 3 people at two Long Island senior citizens' facilities within the last few days. Two others are sick with the lung disease.
REPORTER: Health officials say 2 people died of the illness at Sunharbor Manor, a nursing home in Roslyn Heights, as did a person who lived at the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Smithtown.
REPORTER: Two other Sunrise residents have been hospitalized. Officials are trying to determine the source of the outbreaks.
REPORTER: Legionnaire's is caused by an organism that occurs naturally in water.
