Town Hall Fundraiser for Clinton
by Andrea Bernstein
NEW YORK, NY September 20, 2007 —Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton visited her adopted home state last night for a fund raiser at Town Hall in midtown. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein has more.
REPORTER: Clinton held forth on a wide range of policy issues from pressuring the Chinese government to end the genocide in Darfur to creating a federal loan fund for crumbling school buildings around the country. But when asked to compare her leadership style to her husband's, she decided instead to critique the current President.
CLINTON: I like having a lot of smart people around. I like a lot of debate. I'm not interested in yes men or women. I want people to feel totally free, in contrast to our current president.
REPORTER: In a discussion that lasted nearly 2 hours, Clinton also said her previous health care plan failed because it focussed too much on the uninsured, rather than everyone else. She also compared Vice President Dick Cheney to Darth Vader. Her visit was one of a flurry of stops in New York by the presidential candidates, hoping to fill their campaign coffers before the fund raising period closes at the end of the month. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein.
