Clinton Delivers Major Policy Speech in Iowa
by Fred Mogul
NEW YORK, NY September 17, 2007 —Senator Clinton is in Iowa today, where she is expected to release the official health care policy for her campaign. WNYC’s Fred Mogul has more.
REPORTER: Clinton has been campaigning since January, and health care reform is a key part of her standard stump speech, like this one earlier this year at a Manhattan fundraiser.
CLINTON: I want to set a goal of universal health care coverage, so every single American can have quality affordable health care.
REPORTER: Other candidates have released fairly specific proposals, but until now, she Clinton has only laid out broad goals, such as lowering the cost and improving the quality of health care. Today, she is expected to provide a comprehensive plan for achieving these goals.
REPORTER: The quest for universal health coverage embroiled Clinton in controversy as First Lady, when President Clinton put her in charge of a commission that was widely criticized across the political spectrum.
REPORTER: Senator Clinton says she has learned from her mistakes and would be able to shepherd her plans through Congress. For WNYC, I’m Fred Mogul.
