Designs Unveiled for Three World Trade Center Towers

WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY September 06, 2007 — Less than a week before the city marks the sixth anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, updated designs were unveiled for three new towers that are to rise on the site. Developer Larry Silverstein and his architects say the plans build on the conceptual designs unveiled last year but have more information on details such as building exteriors and lobbies. REPORTER: Silverstein says construction will start in January. Port Authority Executive Director Anthony Shorris says the ongoing delays and troubles with the Deutsche Bank building deconstruction won't get in the way of that timeline. SHORRIS: When Larry said we're putting shovels in the ground in the new year that is no way dependent on 130 Liberty. The Port Authority is working to prepare sites three and four, They're going to hand them over to us and we're going to start building our buildings. REPORTER: Development officials also gave an update on the Nine Eleven memorial and Museum. They say a fundraising effort, spearheaded by Mayor Bloomberg, has raised 300 million dollars toward the 350 million dollar price tag. A national tour of the design plans starts Monday, in Columbia, South Carolina. Visit wtc.com for more images
