City Spraying Pesticide in Queens and Bronx to fight West Nile Virus

NEW YORK, NY August 13, 2007 —The Health Department is spraying pesticide in Queens and the Bronx to combat mosquitoes and cut the risk of West Nile virus. The Health Department will spray in parts of Queens tonight from 8 pm to 6 am. Parts of the Bronx will be sprayed on Wednesday night. In Queens College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Linden Hill, Flushing and Murray Hill will be sprayed.
In the Bronx, spraying will take place in Throgs Neck, Schuyerville, Harding Park, Castle Hill, Sound View Park, Clason Point and Ferry Point Park. The mosquito-borne virus generally causes flu-like symptoms. It has been detected in several boroughs this year. But no human cases have been identified.
