Corzine Email Issue Heads to Court

WNYC NEWS August 03, 2007 —Today, the battle over public disclosure of e-mails between Governor Corzine and his ex-girlfriend Carla Katz, heads to court. Katz is president of one of New Jersey's largest worker unions. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.
REPORTER: The e-mails in question date back to the last round of negotiations between the state workers and the Corzine administration. Governor Corzine contends the e-mail between himself and his former companion and CWA Union boss Katz are private and protected by executive privilege.
REPORTER: NJ Republican State Party chair Tom Wilson is suing for their public release, contending they involve the discussion of government business.
REPORTER: During the last gubernatorial campaign, the Republicans attempted to use the Katz-Corzine connection as an issue alleging the governor would have a significant conflict of interest heading into what promised to be a tough negotiation.
REPORTER: An independent ethics panel cleared Corzine, but public disclosure of the documents could prove embarrassing for the beleaguered governor. For WNYC, I'm Bob Hennelly
