New Feature on MTA Web Site

WNYC News

NEW YORK, NY August 02, 2007 —People who use elevators to access public transportation can now check whether those elevators are in service on a new MTA Web site. Michael Harris, Executive Director of the Disabled Riders Coalition, says the new website is clearer and more efficient than the old hotline.

HARRIS: Today, I no longer need to listen to a garbled human voice recording, because I can simply go to the MTA's Web site and look up the hotline and see what elevators are and are not working.

REPORTER: Transit officials say the site will be updated three times daily at 6 AM, 3 PM, and 10 PM. The MTA plans to expand the service to include text messaging.
