The Status of Gang Activity in New York

NEW YORK, NY June 02, 2007 —Recently in Bushwick, Brooklyn, 32 teenagers on their way to a wake for an 18 year-old were all arrested and held for hours. The NYPD said the dead high school senior was a gang member and his mourners were disorderly. The details surrounding the police action are hotly contested by the young people, along with their parents and teachers, who deny any gang involvement. But just what is the status of gang activity in New York? WNYC’s Bob Hennelly has this report.
