NEW YORK, NY April 16, 2007 —The 2006 Pulitzer Prize announcements were made earlier this afternoon. Among the winners were David Lindsay-Abaire for his play “Rabbit Hole,” and the award for general nonfiction was given to Lawrence Wright for his book, ``The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11.'' This year’s winner in the category of music was the legendary jazz composer and alto sax player Ornette Coleman.
In the 1950s Coleman started a revolution in music when he created the style known as free jazz. In 2006, he released his first album in more than a decade -- called Sound Grammar. WNYC’s John Schaefer was a member of this year’s award’s committee. He joined All Things Considered host Amy Eddings.
