Reports Say Hevesi to Step Down to Avoid Jail Time

NEW YORK, NY December 21, 2006 —According to the Associated Press, State Comptroller Alan Hevesi will resign tomorrow to avoid an indictment for using state employees as drivers for his wife. If he does step down, in exchange for a lesser charge and no jail time, it would end the long running controversy and a long career in public service.
