Tax Reform Package On The Ropes in NJ

NEW YORK, NY December 12, 2006 —For months New Jersey lawmakers and Governor Jon Corzine appeared to be on the same page when it came to rolling back the state's highest-in-the-nation property taxes. But just as the legislature was poised to cut costs by reforming public pensions, the Governor threatened a veto.
And that brings us to yesterday, when ten thousand teachers and state workers dressed in red flexed their union muscles by protesting in Trenton. Now, Democratic legislative leaders and the Democratic Governor are finger-pointing and the property tax reform package may be on the ropes.
