Politicians Unhappy with EPA Clean-Up
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY December 07, 2006 —Senator Hillary Clinton and Congressman Jerrold Nadler, are both calling the EPA's additional testing proposal "inadequate." The agency says it's launching a final 9/11 contamination cleanup program next month.
Officials say the $7 million cleanup will test indoor spaces below Canal Street, west of Allen and Pike streets. Testing is voluntary, but if high levels of toxins are discovered, a cleanup may become mandatory. The EPA says the chances that there are still harmful levels of World Trade Center dust in the area are low.
