City Board of Health Bans Trans-Fats
by Amy Eddings
NEW YORK, NY December 05, 2006 —In a historic move, trans-fats got the heave-ho today at the city's Board of Health. Its members approved a ban on partially hydrogenated oils and shortenings in all the city's restaurants. Board members consider the ban a public health measure, to protect people from the artery-clogging properties of transfats.
WNYC’s All Things Considered host Amy Eddings talks to reporter Fred Mogul about the repercussions of the ban, including whether it means NYC doughnuts will now be good for your health.
