Spitzer Gathers Diverse Group of Advisors
by Elaine Rivera
NEW YORK, NY November 17, 2006 —Governor-Elect Eliot Spitzer has established 13 advisory groups to help him with policy decisions. Spitzer says his selections come from diverse perspectives and regions. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports:
They will discuss everything from agriculture to human resources, but Spitzer say his newly selected advisors will have a variety of perspectives. 29 co-chairs will work with nearly 300 experts on committees to advise the new governor. Spitzer acknowledges that at times there will be clashes. But he says it's part of the creative process to tackle the major problems the state faces.
Among his selections include financier Felix Rohatyn and Jeff Canada, president of Harlem's Children's Zone. Spitzer also says 25,000 potential job seekers have visited his transition web site. Spitzer has cast a net nationwide to find what he says will be the best and brightest candidates for his administration. So far, 2,500 people have submitted resumes.
