Shays Closes in on Challenger

NEW YORK, NY October 24, 2006 —A new poll shows Connecticut congressman Christopher Shays in a tie with his Democratic challenger, Diane Farrell. The poll, by the University of Connecticut's Center for Survey Research, indicates that Farrell has gained on Shays since last month.
REPORTER: The Shays campaign has started running an endorsement ad featuring Mayor Bloomberg, who reiterated his support today.
BLOOMBERG: I have disagreed with him. We've even had a minor public spat over homeland security funding. Congressman Shays is an honest person. He says what he believes. And that's what representative government should be.
REPORTER: According to the poll, the war in Iraq is the top issue for 38 percent of likely voters in the state.
