Kalikow Asked to Consider Other Bids for West Side Rail Yards
by Elaine Rivera
NEW YORK, NY September 14, 2006 —The city offered $500 million to the MTA for the West Side rail yards. An appraisal valued the property at $1.45 billion. A state assemblyman has requested that MTA chairman Peter Kalikow to look at other bids.
REPORTER: Peter Kalikow came under fire from questioning by state legislator Richard Brodsky. The assemblyman wanted to know why the MTA would sell the 26-acre west side property at such a low price. Kalikow said the city was a sure bet. But Brodsky didn't buy it.
BRODSKY: We ought to find out what is out there. There are people who want to bid more money. The MTA should at least listen to them."
REPORTER: Kalikow acknowledged that at least one real estate developer expressed interest in the waterfront property. He said he would consider other offers.
