One Composer Drawn to Church After 9/11

by Fred Mogul

NEW YORK, NY September 09, 2006 —In the days after September 11th, many people went to church, synagogue and other places of worship for the first time in years, drawn by a quest for peace and meaning and community. Composer Eve Beglarian was one of them, and the experience sent her on a spiritual journey that continues today.

As the fifth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks approaches, she sat down with WNYC’s Fred Mogul in her West Village apartment, to discuss the changing role of faith in her life and music. She says she wandered around the city for the first day or so after the attack, and then into the Episcopal church around the corner.
