Iraqi Perspective at SOHO Art Gallery
by Ashley Milne-Tyte
NEW YORK, NY February 11, 2006 —Americans have seen a lot of images from Iraq, many of them unpleasant, and most of them coming from Western news teams. Few have seen any reflection of recent events from the point of view of Iraqis themselves.
But now five Iraqi artists are showing their contemporary art at a Manhattan gallery; all of the works were done since the war started in 2003. Reporter Ashley Milne-Tyte went to Soho to take a look.
The first part of the Iraqi Phoenix exhibition ends on February 22nd. Part two begins February 28th. It can be viewed at the Pomegranate Gallery in Soho.
