NJ Assembly Picks New Speaker

NEW YORK, NY January 10, 2006 —Today in Trenton, 53-year-old Camden County Assemblyman Joe Roberts became the 83rd Speaker to preside over the New Jersey Assembly. Roberts, a former bar and restaurant owner, is a veteran politician who is an ally of Camden County Democratic Party boss John Norcross. WNYC's Bob Hennelly sat down with Roberts who is moving up from his previous title as Assembly majority leader to assume the third most powerful post in state government.
