Reducing City Traffic: Boon or Bane to Business?

by Andrea Bernstein

NEW YORK, NY November 18, 2005 —In this fall's election, traffic wasn't a top issue for voters. But now, two organizations - a business group and a non-profit promoting biking and walking - are studying reducing congestion, in part by charging drivers who bring cars into Midtown.

The groups say failing to address the issue will take a heavy toll on New York's economy, air quality, and public health. And they're hoping to win Mayor Bloomberg's support. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein reports.
