Bloomberg Second-Term Plans Focus on "Micro"

NEW YORK, NY October 13, 2005 —Mayor Bloomberg is campaigning on New York being a safer place with record economic growth. But yesterday, the Republican incumbent said he wants to create 250,000 new jobs if elected to a second term. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein has more.
REPORTER: If the Mayor's first term economic agenda was focussed on the macro -- the Olympics, the West Side Stadium, and the Republican National convention, the second term is honing in on the micro -- targeting neighborhoods like Bed Stuy for jobs growth, and enhancing small business services. But he says he hasn't given up on megaevents.
BLOOMBERG: Oh no no no, anything but.... Every one of these events brings people here who then go home and say New York is clean, New York is affordable, New York is safe, New York is fun.
REPORTER: The mayor says he wants to increase the budget for marketing New York by an unspecified amount. And in his second term, he's promising to try to accelerate the development of office and retail towers on the WTC site. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein
