NEW YORK, NY September 18, 2005 —Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez visited communities in the Bronx this weekend. During a speech at an evangelical church, he offered a group of local residents discounts on oil, medical care and medical training for young people.

REPORTER: Angelica Otero heads a Bronx organization that deals with education and housing issues. She says she wants to work with the Chavez government to help bring aid to the borough.

OTERO: And so here we have a country that doesn't have as many resources willing to help the people in the Bronx that we do we want to work on that and that our country and government can learn from this president.

REPORTER: Congressman Jose Serrano hosted the weekend events. He says Chavez's offerings are realistic and legal, but he adds that the state department might object to accepting the aid.
