WSJ Launches Saturday Edition
by Amy Eddings
NEW YORK, NY September 17, 2005 —The Wall Street Journal launches a Saturday edition tomorrow and the move is being touted by observers of the newspaper industry as one of the boldest gambles in the Journal’s 123 year hisory.
Why? Well, the stock of the Journal's publisher, Dow Jones, has been down about 35 percent in the last five years and three top executives have left, including JoAnne Lipman, the deputy managing editor who oversaw the "lifestyles" part of the paper which is a key part of the content of the Saturday edition.
The Wall Street Journal’s managing editor, Paul Steiger, talks with WNYC’s All Things Considered host Amy Eddings about the new edition.
