Ferrer, Weiner Hold Unity Rally at City Hall
by Fred Mogul
NEW YORK, NY September 15, 2005 —Likely Democratic mayoral nominee Fernando Ferrer was joined by his three former opponents for a "Unity Rally," now that the primary is over.
REPORTER: The party faithful gathered on the City Hall steps to celebrate the candidacy of Fernando Ferrer. His former opponents each took a turn praising him, and then Ferrer took the podium and thanked everyone for their support.
FERRER: Today we come together as Democrats to celebrate our shared vision for our future for our city. I look forward to campaigning with Anthony and Virginia and Gifford in every neighborhood and fighting together to bring our Democratic values of opportunity, hope and inclusion back to City Hall.
REPORTER: Asked how he would persuade Democrats who support Bloomberg to change their mind, Ferrer only said:
FERRER: Republican Mike Bloomberg for example in affordable housing is all sizzle and no steak. For the next eight weeks, we're gonna make that case to every New Yorker. Thank you!
