Pirro Campaign Off to Rough Start
by Cindy Rodriguez
NEW YORK, NY August 11, 2005 —Jeanine Pirro says if elected to the Senate she would support the Patriot Act, permanent tax cuts, and a woman's right to an abortion. But as WNYC's Cindy Rodriguez reports, Pirro's campaign to unseat Hillary Clinton has gotten off to a rough start.
During her kickoff speech at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, Jeanine Pirro spoke passionately about prosecuting criminals as the Westchester District Attorney. But as she was outlining her moderate platform, she stopped abruptly, and while photographers snapped pictures, she struggled to find a missing page from her speech.
At another event in Albany the sound system failed causing Pirro to stop and wait until it was fixed. One political analyst says no one is paying attention to the race right now but soon it will be played out under a national spotlight and Pirro should be better prepared.
The Former First lady already has nearly $9 million on hand. The Republican party is expected to spend heavily on the senate race.
