Pirro Comes Out Swinging in Senate Race
by Cindy Rodriguez
NEW YORK, NY August 09, 2005 —Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro says she will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Hillary Clinton in her re-election bid for the United States Senate.
Jeanine Pirro issued a press release announcing her intention to run. She plans to make campaign stops later this week in New York, Buffalo, Albany and at her parents home in Elmira.
Pirro accuses Senator Clinton of using her seat on the senate as a springboard for the Presidency. She says Clinton is quote "asking us to be her doormat."
Some pundits say Pirro has come out swinging and that's exactly what Republicans want. Doug Muzzio, a professor of Public Affairs at Baruch College says even if Pirro doesn't win she can at least do damage to the well-known Senator from New York and her possible presidential run.
Manhattan lawyer Edward Cox has also announced he'll run for the Republican nomination, but the head of the state GOP insists the party will back one candidate and a primary won't be necessary.
